Payments and payouts
Roraima takes no commission on bookings, and the money comes straight to you: the guest pays by card into your Stripe account, or settles directly with you. If they pay by card, the only cost is the small card fee; each booking received uses 2 credits, extra services use more, and you receive 500 free credits every month.
The same old problem
Sellers on the big portals discover two unpleasant things. The first is how heavy the commission looks once you add up a year of it. The second is that somebody else collects the customer's money, passes it on when they see fit, and holds it in the meantime.
Two ways to pay
On Roraima the money from your bookings comes to you, not to us. The guest chooses one of two ways:
- By card, on the site: the payment goes straight to your Stripe account, the service used to accept cards. The account is in your name, and the money does not pass through Roraima.
- Directly to you: the guest does not pay on the site and settles with you, in the way and at the time you tell them. The dates stay blocked, and the booking becomes confirmed when you record the payment.
That is not a formality. It means Roraima is never standing in the middle of your money: it does not hold it, it cannot freeze it over some internal policy, and if the platform vanished tomorrow your takings would stay exactly where they are, in your account.
What you need to take card payments
-
Register as a seller
Signing up is free, and the shop exists straight away. You can start preparing your listings while you sort out the rest.
-
Get identified
Anyone collecting money online has to be identified, by law. The check is run by the payment network rather than by us: you upload a document and the details of whoever receives the money, on their side.
-
Give your bank details
The account you want the money in. That too is entered on their side: we never see it.
-
Sell
From then on every card payment leaves and arrives without you doing anything else.
The identity check takes a few days the first time. Do it when you register, not the evening before your first booking. In the meantime your shop front is already open, and guests can book and settle directly with you.
When it arrives
When the guest pays by card, the amount goes to your Stripe account at the moment of payment: Roraima does not hold on to it, and there is no monthly "payday".
The next step, the transfer from your Stripe balance to your bank, follows the payout schedule Stripe applies to your account. You can see it and manage it from your own Stripe dashboard: at the start, as with any new business, the first payouts can take a little longer.
What it costs
The page is free, and Roraima takes no commission on bookings. There are two possible costs:
- The card fee, when the guest pays by card: Stripe keeps it according to its own rates, which are small, as happens to anyone who accepts cards. There is none on bookings settled directly with you.
- Credits for extra services: some services linked to bookings use credits, for example importing the bookings you receive on other portals, lock codes and the legally required filings in Italy. Each booking received on your page also uses 2 credits, and you receive 500 free credits every month.
You can see the card fee payment by payment in your Stripe account. No surprise line at the end of the month.
If a booking falls through
If the guest paid by card, refunds go back the way the payment came, in full or in part, following the cancellation rules you set on the product. The customer read them before buying, so there is nothing to negotiate.
If a customer disputes the charge with their bank instead, the case is handled by the payment network. Inside Roraima you find the dispute listed with its status and its amount, so you know what is going on without discovering it from a statement.
And VAT
Prices are shown to customers with tax already included, as they should be for private buyers. For stays, the rate applied is that of the country where the property is located, wherever the guest comes from.
Whether your business charges VAT, and in which category, is something you state in your profile: the software does not decide it for you, because it depends on how your business is set up. Roraima keeps the record of every sale with the tax shown separately from the net amount, and puts those figures in front of you and your accountant, who are the people who decide how to declare them.
And the tourist tax
For properties in Italy, the guest can also pay the tourist tax from the page of their stay, by card, and the amount goes to the property's account like the other payments. The calculation follows the municipality's rules that you set on the property, and the tourist tax calculator shows how the total is worked out.
