Tourist tax in Italy: calculate your costs before you travel

Before you book your trip to Italy, you should factor in the tourist tax. It is often charged on top of your accommodation price, so if you are travelling as a group or visiting several cities, it is worth keeping in mind as an extra expense.

Budgeting for the extra cost

The exact amount depends on the local municipality, the type of accommodation you choose, and sometimes the time of year. It is usually charged per person, per night, though exemptions and maximum stay caps vary from one destination to the next. For instance, if the rate is 2.50 euros for two guests staying for three nights, your total will come to 15 euros.

Work out the cost before you go

With the free Roraima calculator, you can select the town where you will be staying and enter the number of nights, the number of guests, and the ages of any children. The results will show you the estimated cost based on available rates, including the specific accommodation types and periods they apply to. If a town is not on the list, you can simply enter the rate provided by your accommodation host.

The guests

The age on arrival only matters for children. The box marks a guest who is exempt for another reason set out in the regulations.

Before you confirm your booking, check whether the tax is already included in the total or if it needs to be paid separately, and which rate applies to your accommodation for your chosen dates. If you are planning a multi-city trip, repeat the calculation for each stay and add the amounts to your overall travel budget.
