TTLock passcode limit: how to get past it

The TTLock app gives you a limited number of free passcodes per month for each lock. To get past this threshold there are two routes, which are taking out a TTLock subscription or connecting the device to Roraima, which generates a passcode on its own for each booking.

How the TTLock app passcode limit works

The code limit applies to the ones you generate manually inside the app. The monthly threshold is set by TTLock and appears directly on your screen when you create new access. This free allowance is enough to let in a family member or the cleaner, but it is not enough if you let properties for short stays, because when you host different people every few days you have to create a code for every arrival and you soon run out of the available ones.

The TTLock subscription

If you prefer to carry on generating access manually from your phone, you can take out TTLock's paid subscription. This plan removes the monthly cap and unlocks the advanced features, with pricing and terms set directly by TTLock.

Getting past the limit by connecting Roraima

The alternative is to connect the lock to Roraima, so you no longer need to go through the app to set up guest access. At that point it is Roraima that creates the codes, through the connection that TTLock provides to platforms.

This setup takes a few steps and only needs to be done once from the control panel. To start, go to the ‘Locks and devices → Manufacturer accounts’ page, enter the email and password you use in the TTLock app to add your TTLock account, and import the lock. Next, open the ‘Units and access’ tab of your listing and select the newly imported device in the ‘Access locks’ list. From then on, every stay gets its own temporary code. Roraima generates it on the day of arrival, shortly before the check-in time shown on the listing, and displays it to the guest on their dedicated booking page. The code stops opening the lock at the scheduled check-out time.

The same applies to bookings that come in from another portal. If the listing's calendar is linked to the portal's calendar, Roraima imports them on its own and prepares the code for them too, and that code shifts with the dates whenever the portal changes them. You can also enter them manually among the listing's bookings, with the guest's name and email. The guest receives the link to the stay page by email, and when their email is missing the owner copies it from the booking page in the panel and sends it to them.

A practical example with a key safe

Imagine managing a one-bedroom flat that has a TTLock key safe fitted next to the main door and already connected to Roraima. A couple books from the 3rd to the 6th of the month. On the 3rd, shortly before 3 pm, which is shown on the listing as the check-in time, the two guests open their stay page and find the code to type in along with directions to the property. That code opens the key safe until 10 am on the 6th, after which it stops working. In the afternoon of that same day a family arrives for a new stay and opens the key safe using their own personal code. Everything carries on like this for any number of bookings during the month, without the owner having to step in manually on the app.

What you need to get started

To activate this connection you need the account used in the app and a TTLock lock or key safe that is among the supported devices. The device must already be fitted and paired with the app on your phone, even if it was bought from other retailers. Adding the TTLock gateway, the small unit that connects the lock to the property's Wi-Fi network, is recommended, because it allows Roraima to extend a code's validity if the guest decides to stay longer, to change it if the holiday dates are moved, and to delete it from the lock's memory once the stay has ended. The gateway becomes necessary, however, when a single lock controls the entrance for multiple listings, as happens with the shared main door of a building that houses several flats.

If you want to connect your TTLock lock to Roraima, you can open your profile starting from the owner registration page. All the step-by-step instructions, the details on the gateway and the answers to the most frequent questions can be found in the guide dedicated to the TTLock smart lock for short-term rentals.
